That's OK, in fact even better. (not a lecture folks just a comment) This whole social thing in relation to helping should be its own reward. Sure it can easily be turned into some self-aggrandizing contest, the church basket passed around and someone drops a $50 spot in type thing.
At times people can give, others they can't, and when the latter happens they shouldn't be thrown into the guilty bin of fund raising campaigns.
Your actions come from the heart and I'm hoping that's the place where most of socialness on the web lies. I'm not naive about human nature and realize all people at some point are motivated by "what's in it for me." However, I have equal hope that these acts of humanity show what is possible when we forget about "where we rank" and think about "how can I help"
The good you do in the world comes back to you.
Best wishes to Jamie and her family.

My heart goes out to the Loveless family while they make it through this ordeal. And you have the ability to help them through all of your friends, colleagues and networks. That's what matters most. :)
Thanks for bringing this to our attention Ken, it's important.
And regarding your comment about having nothing to give back - dude, we're getting something HUGE back. A human connection, a way to reach out to someone and provide some tender mercies in a time of deep fear. Nothing tops that.
I was all ready to make a contribution, but your paypal account doesn't accept credit card payments, it tried to force me to open a paypal account and pay from there.
While I am happy to help, I do not need or want a paypal account. If you could upgrade your paypal account from personal to merchant - this is a free upgrade if I remember correctly - you will be able to accept genuine credit card payments.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
This is another website dedicated to Jamie and her family. They are posting updates as frequently as possible. I went to high school with Jamie and her husband Chris. I can assure you. This is absolutely legit!

Thanks for posting and organizing this effort.
Thanks for sharing this story. I've done what I can to contribute and pass the word. Let's hope people don't stop at $5k. We all know it's going to take more than that.
Keep us posted.

Thank you for sharing this story and showing your love and compassion for a family in need. I hope you do realize that you have given back, more than rewards and accolades can provide. You have given hope to all people who hear about this demonstration of love and generosity from a community of strangers.
So sorry. My thoughts go out to Chris and his family. I'm sure that you efforts brought much comfort to the Loveless family.
No family should have to go through this; thanks to you and the support of your community, they'll be spared just a little bit of the associated pain and difficulty.
